Five dams in Maharashtra release excess water; warning issued

Water was released from five dams in North and Western Maharashtra due to heavy rain in catchment areas. A warning has been issued to villages on the banks of the Mutha and Godavari rivers as their levels were likely to rise. 

Residents of hamlets located on the banks of Bhatsa River in Thane district were put on in the wake of the opening of doors of the Bhatsa dam.

Villages located on the banks of the river in Shahapur and Murbad talukas have also been put on . Shahpur dam is one of the major sources of water for Mumbai and Thane.
