Malaviya ji established the university
Kashi Hindu University was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. He was also called Mahamana with affection and respect. This university was Malaviya’s dream.
He wanted to see the students of India proficient in both physical and spiritual education methods. His dream was the seed of the creation of Kashi Hindu University, which he transformed into a huge tree with his indomitable will, affection and hard work.
The knowledge branch of this tree is spread all around and continues to spread even today. Kashi Hindu University was established under the Banaras Hindu University Act, Act No. 16, 1915.
The university was established on 04 February 1916. This date was of Basant Panchami, since then this university celebrates its foundation day every year on Basant Panchami.
Annie Besant along with Kashi Naresh, Maharaj of Darbhanga gave support in the establishment
Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya started the establishment of Kashi Hindu University in 1904, when the first meeting of the founders was held under the chairmanship of Kashi Naresh Maharaj Prabhunarayan Singh. The first course of the university was published in 1905 AD.
Madan Mohan Malaviya reiterated his resolve to establish the university at the Kumbh Mela of 1906. It is said that at the same time, an old lady gave a donation of money to Malaviya ji for this work. Meanwhile, Dr. Annie Besant was moving forward in establishing the university in Kashi.
Raja Maharaj Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga also wanted to establish Sharda Vidyapeeth in Kashi. The plans of these three universities were different, but Malaviya ji consulted Dr. Besant and Maharaj Rameshwar Singh and prepared them both to support their plan.
As a result, the Banaras Hindu University Society was established on 15 December 1911, headed by Maharaja and Secretary Maharana of Darbhanga.

The above things Mahamana said to the students about the Kashi Hindu University is literally true. The university, spread over 1300 acres, is covered with greenery, which relaxes both the eyes and the interior. The university’s southern campus is located in Mirzapur.
In such a picturesque environment of the university, studies are conducted in a total of 16 faculties, 132 departments including modern medicine, Ayurveda, dentistry, engineering and technology, agriculture, environment and sustainable development, arts, commerce, education. The university also maintains 3 schools for children.
