Eminent Kuchipudi dancer Shobha Naidu passes away

Well-known Kuchipudi classical dancer and Guru, Shobha Naidu passed away this morning in Hyderabad. She was 59. She was getting treatment for some ailment at a local corporate hospital.

A disciple of eminent Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, Shobha Naidu performed with her guru’s troupe across the world and brought laurels to the country. In recognition of her services, the Government of India presented her Padma Shri Award in 2001. Thousands of her disciples are now practising and performing Kuchipudi classical dance forms world over.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has condoled her death and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has expressed his profound grief and sadness at the sudden passing away of Dr. Shobha Naidu, an eminent Kuchipudi dancer and an outstanding disciple of the renowned master Vempati Chinna Satyam.

Governor Harichandan has said, Dr.Sobha Naidu mastered the technique of Kuchipudi and played lead roles in dance-dramas at a very young age and her performance in the roles of Satyabhama and Padmavati were well acclaimed. Dr. Sobha Naidu also contributed to the popularity of the Kuchipudi dance by imparting training to younger students, said the Governor.
