The Election Commission will announce the dates for assembly elections in West Bengal, Puducherry, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Assam at 4.30 pm on Friday.
Leaders from different political parties including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have already started campaigning in the five states to woo the voters.
Poll dates for Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are likely to be announced by the EC at a press conference at 4.30 pm on Friday. They are due for Assembly election in April-May.
The Election Commission held a crucial meeting on Wednesday to finalise the schedule for the upcoming poll to four states (West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala) and one Union Territory (Puducherry). The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.
