The Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) project was showcased by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) at the 4th Bahrain Smart Cities Summit, which is being held as part of Bahrain Tech Week 2019.
The facility is the first of its kind in the Arab World. The eKYC project targets retail banks and other institutions providing financial services and currency exchange, allowing access to customer data available with concerned authorities electronically, in accordance with the law, said Government Systems Development Director Mr. Abdulla Habib.
The project was implemented by BENEFIT in cooperation with iGA and under the supervision of the Central Bank of Bahrain.
Apart from showcasing the eKYC Project at the exhibition, iGA also promoted several other innovative projects. The most notable among them include the Soil Mapping system, Benayat building permits system, and the Government Notifications System (NotifyMe), which can be accessed via eKey obtainable via basic registration with the authority.
