Education Ministry Holds Meeting To Discuss Multilingualism And Highlights Significance Of Mother Tongue In Learning

The Education Ministry held a meeting to discuss multilingualism, the medium of instruction in schools, and the importance of learning in the local Indian language for young learners. The meeting was convened in New Delhi under the chairpersonship of Department of School Education and Literacy Secretary Sanjay Kumar, along with senior officials and experts. The Ministry stressed that knowledge of more than one language enables enhanced comprehension and the development of interpersonal skills. Highlighting the significance of mother tongue in learning, the ministry said that young children learn and grasp nontrivial concepts more quickly in their home language or mother tongue.
