External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is on a two day visit to Moscow to attend the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of SCO meeting which will exchange views on regional and relevant global issues. EAM will have bilateral dialogues with different member states including Russia.
Even though there is no confirmation on bilateral meeting of Indian and Chinese foreign ministers as yet, Chinese foreign ministry today said during a press conference in Beijing that foreign ministers of India, Russia and China will have a luncheon meeting in Moscow on teh sidelines. It said that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of relevant member states. India, China and Russia are also part of Russia India China – RIC grouping which focuses on mutual cooperation between three countries.
Dr. Jaishankar’s visit to Moscow comes on the heels of Defence MInister Rajnath Singh who met his chinese counterpart in Moscow on the sidelines of SCO defence ministers meet last week. This assumes importance as it will be the second in person ministerial level engagement between the two countries after the current standoff between the two sides at the LAC.
This will be the third CFM meeting that India will be attending as a full member of SCO. The SCO meeting will be chaired by the current Chair of SCO, Russia and the discussion will lay the ground for the upcoming session of the SCO Summit to be held this year where leaders will discuss political and security related issues.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today met Kyrgyzstan Foreign Affairs Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, SCO meeting in Moscow.
In a tweet, Dr. Jaishankar said, the meeting was fruitful and discussed issues of bilateral and regional interest. He said, both nations agreed to further enhance the Strategic Partnership in all spheres. Dr. Jaishankar also thanked Chingiz Aidarbekov for the support in facilitating the return of Indian nationals.
