Domestic raw coking coal production continues to witness increasing trend in current fiscal: Coal Ministry

The Coal Ministry has said that domestic raw coking coal production continues to witness an increasing trend in the current fiscal as well with production of over eight million tonne. It is twenty per cent more compared to six point nine million tonne during the same period of the previous year. The Ministry has targets to increase coal production to 140 million tonne by 2030.

The Ministry highlighted, at present, domestic raw coking coal washing capacity is about twenty three million tonne per annum. It said, Coal India Ltd. is planning to set up and operationalize nine more new washeries with a capacity of thrity MTPA. The ministry estimated, after new washeries, CIL will be able to supply about fifteen million tonne of washed coking coal to the steel sector, thereby reducing import of coking coal.
