As per the Ministry of Civil Aviation, more air travellers have started using the Digi Yatra app as over 1.6 lakh passengers have taken advantage of the mobile application for seamless airport entry. The total number of passengers who have used the Digi Yatra process at the airports from 1st December 2022 to 14th February 2023 is more than 1.6 Lakh. Total app user base of Digi Yatra on the Android Play Store & iOS Apple App Store is 422K.
There has been steady growth in the number of passengers using Digi Yatra. In Varanasi, the number of Digi Yatra users has increased from 0.09% of total passengers on 1st December 2022 to 28% of total passengers on 13th February 2023 with the highest of 37% of total users on 2nd February.
Digi Yatra is being implemented across airports in a phased manner. In the first phase, it was launched at Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi Airports on 1st December last year. The implementation of Digi Yatra under phase I is also planned at Kolkata, Pune, Vijayawada, and Hyderabad Airports by March this year.
Digital experience for air travellers
Passengers are automatically processed based on facial recognition system at check points like – Entry point check, Entry in to Security Check, Aircraft Boarding. This also facilitates self-bag drop and check-in, using facial recognition to identify pax and data recall. All the passenger’s data is encrypted and stored in the wallet of the passenger’s smartphone and shared only for a limited time duration with the airport of travel origin where the passenger’s Digi Yatra ID needs to be validated. The data is purged from the system within 24 hours of the flight.
Digi Yatra platform was built on 4 key pillars:
– Connected Passengers
– Connected Airports
– Connected Flying
– Connected Systems
This can make it possible over a period of time for passengers to plan their trips efficiently by identifying price trends and estimate future airfares at the time of ticket booking and to optionally link their Aadhaar to airlines and other ecosystem players at the time of booking for faster airport entry and automated check-ins without requiring any paper-based interventions. This also allows for walk-through security scanners swiftly owing to advanced biometric security solutions.
