Central Apprenticeship Council recommends 30% increase in youth stipend

Central Apprenticeship Council has recommended 30 percent increase in stipend provided for youth under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme- NAPS and National Apprenticeship Training Scheme- NATS.

The decision was taken at the 38th Meeting of the Council chaired by Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Jayant Chaudhary in New Delhi.

Once notified the, the stipend under these two schemes will increase from the existing range of 5 thousand and 9 thousand to 6 thousand 800 and 12 thousand 300.

The recommendation aims to reduce dropout rates and attract more candidates across diverse sectors. The meeting also reviewed India’s evolving apprenticeship landscape and discussed critical reforms to enhance the outcome.

In his address, Mr Jayant Chaudhary said that apprenticeship is not just a skilling mechanism, as it is a bridge that connects education, industry, and employment, especially for rural youth.

He added that with NAPS and NATS as pillars supported by a strong legal framework, the Ministry is actively reforming the system to make it more inclusive, responsive, and aspirational.
