The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into its custody Shubham Khairnar in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak. Shubham was detained in Nashik, Maharashtra, yesterday by the crime branch unit of Nashik Police at the request of Rajasthan Police.
The NEET (UG) 2026 exam for admission to undergraduate courses in medical colleges, held on the 3rd of this month, was cancelled yesterday amid allegations of paper leak. The government asked the CBI to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the irregularities.
In a related development, a parent of a NEET-UG 2026 candidate has filed a complaint with the Latur SP Office, alleging that a private coaching institute conducted a mock test before the exam in which 42 questions reportedly matched those asked in the actual NEET paper. SP Amol Tambe directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer to conduct an immediate inquiry and initiate legal action against those found guilty. The Latur police administration has appealed to citizens to come forward with any information or evidence related to the NEET paper leak case.
Earlier, the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group detained 15 people during investigations into the suspected network and money trail. The Special Operations Group yesterday detained an alleged mastermind, Manish, from Jaipur. On the 7th of this month, five persons, including Sikar-based career counsellor Rakesh Kumar, were arrested from Dehradun and four NEET aspirants were arrested the next day.
The CBI team arrived in Jaipur to probe the alleged leak of the NEET examination paper and questioned around two dozen people who were rounded up by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police. Meanwhile, hundreds of people have been questioned by SOG in Sikar and nearby areas as part of the investigation. According to SOG officials, several people allegedly sold “guess papers” for money, and many questions from those papers reportedly appeared in the NEET examination.
Amid growing controversy over the alleged paper leak, the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee has announced protest demonstrations at all district headquarters across the state today.
