Casio contributes to education in Indonesia

Jakarta [Indonesia], Oct 11 : Indonesia has over 50 million students and 2.6 million teachers in more than 250,000 schools. It is the thirdlargest education system in Asia region. Recently, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia has signed a partnership with global electronics maker “Casio” in order to focus on the “STEM”, which is an education curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Reflecting on the same, Hiroshi Nakamura of Casio said, “In recent years, we came to understand that education is one of the most important focus points for the Indonesian government.

In order to reach a high global level in the future, we believe that improving education for next generation is one of the most important objects and we are proud to support the improvement of education in Indonesia for better future.” Casio has a large global market share of scientific calculators which help to develop students’ study of mathematics.

The company had spent more than 20 years in Vietnam spreading out mathematics teaching methods using scientific calculators. After achieving huge success there, it started in Indonesia two years ago with the same efforts. Shinji Ota of Casio said, “Each class period is only 40 to 50 minutes, it is a very limited time.

Out of that time, teachers, spend about 20 minutes doing hand calculations and this is a concerning issue especially as there is a difference in students levels. Using scientific calculators in classes can make teaching smoother and more efficient by minimising the time for calculating.” A math game was also held during the signing ceremony between Casio and the Indonesian Ministry of Education. The students tried to answer each question by using scientific calculators.

Nakamura added, “STEM educational curriculum is popular global wide and to achieve high levels in this system. It is necessary to improve the mathematical abilities of students. We can help to achieve that by providing our scientific calculators. At the same time, we can benefit from this business model but our main goal is to support students to achieve high-level study.”

Efforts to improve education by the Japanese company are giving various opportunities and encouragement to teachers and students in Indonesia and providing a valuable educational environment for a brighter future. (
