BMC launches mass drive against those not wearing face masks

In a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 ahead of the festive season, the Mumbai civic body on Monday launched a mass drive against those not wearing face masks and said it will penalise nearly 20,000 such citizens every day.

BMC commissioner I S Chahal said that the drive will continue for at least a month.

He added that he himself will monitor the situation every day.

He said that it was observed that a large number of citizens under the MCGM do not wear face masks and this can lead to the situation getting difficult.

He added that the city civic body has set a penalty of 200 rupees for not wearing mask in public places.
