A lot has already been heard about the upcoming iPhone 12 series by Apple. From several leaks and rumours it has been established that the series will include four handsets this time. While the iPhone 12 and 12 Max will feature a 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch OLED Retina screens, the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are said to sport a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED Retina screens. However, Ross Young, the founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has given some more details on the screen specs of the four models.
In a series of tweets, Young states that iPhone 12’s 5.4-inch OLED screen will be supplied by Samsung and not BOE. The expected display resolution is 2340×1080 pixels with 475 ppi and Y-Octa touchscreen tech. Y-Octa touchscreens were introduced by Samsung a few years ago with an aim to make screen panels thinner.
On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Max’s 6.1-inch panel is said to come from BOE and LG Display and will have a 2532 x 1170 resolution with 460 ppi.
Apple’s iPhone 6.1-inch featuring iPhone 12 Pro might have its display coming from Samsung. There could be a flexible OLED screen with 2532×1170 pixel resolution and 10-bits of color.
The 6.68-inch screen for the iPhone 12 Pro Max may exclusively come from Samsung. It may have a 2778×1284 flexible OLED panel with 458 ppi, Y-OCTA, 10-bits and might be XDR capable.
Ross adds that the iPhone 12 panel’s production can start around 6 week late from its scheduled time. So instead of an early June timeline, the production may begin from late July, which can in-turn push the launch date of the Apple iPhone 12 series from September to October.
