Announcement of dates for assembly elections in five states, voting in March-April, results on May 2

The country’s Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday announced the election dates for five states – Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Puducherry and West Bengal. With this announcement, the code of conduct has come into force in all these states. According to the commission, the voting of all the states will be held in March and April and the counting of votes will take place on May 2. Election results will be declared on the same day by the end of the counting of votes.

Assam (126 seats)

First Phase Voting – March 27
Second Phase Voting – April 1
Third phase voting – April 6

Kerala (140 seats)

One-phase election – April 6
Polling will be held on the same day for the by-election in Mallapuram Lok Sabha seat.

Tamil Nadu (234 seats)

One Step Election – April 6

Puducherry (30 seats)

One Step Election – April 6

West Bengal (294 seats)

There will be elections in 8 stages

First Phase Voting – March 27
Second Phase Voting – April 1
Third phase voting – April 6
Fourth phase voting – 10 April
Fifteenth Phase Voting – April 17
Sixth phase voting – April 22
Seventh Phase Voting – April 26
Eighth Phase Voting – April 29

Focussed attention to festivals and examinations

The Election Commission said that while deciding the schedule of elections, the Commission took special care of festivals like Holi, Bihu, Ramadan, etc. At the same time, the board held several meetings with the CBSE board to prevent disruption in board examinations. It has been tried that students are not disturbed due to the election. Like Bihar this time also the voting time will be one hour more.

He said that adequate CAPF deployment would be ensured during the election. All important, sensitive polling stations have been identified and a sufficient number of CAPFs will be deployed there. Webcasting of polling stations will be done in sensitive areas.

The election commissioner stated that the Kovid guidelines will be strictly followed. During nomination, a maximum of two people can come with the candidate, while in the door-to-door campaign, a maximum of five people will be able to campaign together. Apart from this, appeals have been made to keep safe distance from people in public meetings. The special thing is that every person posted on election duty will get a vaccine. The Election Commissioner said that the Health Ministry has placed the duty-makers on the election as front-line workers. Vaccine work will start from the bottom. That is, the people who are posted at the booth level will get the vaccine first and the officials working in the commission will get the vaccine at the end.

Special things related to elections

Special police supervisors will be appointed for the election.
Number of polling stations increased.
Polling time will be one hour more.
A total of 2.7 lakh polling stations will cast their votes.
There will be 101916 election centers in West Bengal.
There will be 40771 election centers in Kerala.
All officers and employees deployed for elections will be considered as front line workers, all will be vaccinated.
CRPF will be deployed at sensitive booths.
M. K. Das will be the Special Police Supervisor in West Bengal.
Only 5 people, including the candidate, will be able to campaign from house to house.
Ashok Kumar will be the Special Police Supervisor in Assam.
Dharmendra Kumar will be the Special Police Supervisor in Tamil Nadu.
Candidate’s spending limit in Puducherry is 22 lakh rupees.
Candidate’s spending limit of Rs 30.8 lakhs in Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu.
This will be the last election of the tenure of Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.

It may be noted that the tenure of West Bengal is ending on May 30, May 24 in Tamil Nadu, June 1 in Kerala, May 31 in Assam and Union Territory of Puducherry on June 8.
