After Ram Mandir, mobilisation for temple-building at Kashi and Mathura to gain momentum: BJP’s Vinay Katiyar

After the completion of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with Hindu organisations will start the next movement for Kashi and Mathura.

BJP firebrand leader Vinay Katiyar has said that mobilisation for temple-building at Kashi and Mathura will gain momentum once the Ram Mandir is completed.

A well-known face of the Ram Mandir movement, Katiyar in an interview to IANS said, “One job has been accomplished in Ayodhya and two are yet to be done. Like Ayodhya, temples have to be built at Kashi and Mathura, too.”

Kashi’s Gyanvapi mosque

Speaking on the Ram Mandir ‘Bhumi Pujan’, Katiyar slammed the then Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav for ordering cops to fire on kar sevaks saying a lot of Ram Bhakts were killed in firing and  Ayodhya was soaked in blood.

He further said that with the construction of the Ram temple the soul of the kar sevaks killed in the movement would rest in peace.

Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque has long been on the radar of saffron organisations. The mosque shares a boundary wall with the Kashi Vishwanath temple, which has been demolished and rebuilt several times during its centuries-old history.

In 1669, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb built the Gyanvapi mosque on the temple site.

Kashi Vishwanath Mandir has been demanding the removal of the Gyanvapi Masjid from the site and possession of the entire land.

Shahi Idgah mosque, Mathura

Mathura’s Shahi Idgah mosque stands next to the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, considered the birthplace of Krishna.

The temple was destroyed in 1670 by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and the Shahi Idgah mosque was built on the plinth of the temple.

According to a report by Outlook, in 1997, Katiyar had said, “The VHP will bring its entire force to bear on Mathura, till idols of Bajrangbali adorn the Idgah’s four minars.”
