Xiaomi launched its first smartwatch on Tuesday. It is called the Mi Watch. The design of the smartwatch from Xiaomi is inspired by Apple Watch. The Mi Watch comes with a rectangular dial similar to the Apple Watch. It runs MIUI for Watch in China. However, outside China, the Mi Watch will come with WearOS. Soon after Xiaomi launched the Mi Watch its sub-brand Redmi announced that it is also working on a smartwatch.
On Wednesday Redmi’s General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo – Chinese microblogging site – to announce that the Redmi Watch is in the works. Weibing didn’t confirm any further information about the upcoming Redmi Watch. Considering Redmi is Xiaomi’s sub-brand we can expect the Redmi Watch to have a similar design. In other words, the Redmi Watch may come with Apple Watch like design, rectangular dial, AMOLED screen, and more.
Xiaomi launches the Mi Watch in two variants. One is a standard version while the second one or Mi Watch Privilege Edition comes with a four-curved sapphire glass, a high-gloss stainless steel body. The special edition watch includes a stainless steel chain strap and a ceramic back cover. As for the pricing the standard model of the Mi Watch comes with a price tag of 1299 yuan – it roughly translates to Rs 13,000. The top-end version or the Mi Watch Privilege Edition comes with a price tag of 1999 Yuan — that approximately translates to Rs 20,000. Considering Redmi is a price-sensitive brand it is expected that the upcoming Redmi Watch can be affordable similar to the smartphones.
The recently launched Mi Watch comes with various smart as well as fitness features and the same is expected from the Redmi Watch as well. The Mi Watch comes with a 1.78-inch AMOLED screen, 570mAh battery, and MIUI for Watch. For now, there are no details about the India launch of the Mi Watch.
