Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi interacted with veterans during his visit to Vajra Corps and felicitated four distinguished ex-servicemen including a 1971 war veteran with the ‘Veteran Achievers Award’ for their outstanding contributions to society, youth empowerment & Nation Building. They were honoured during a ceremony held at Jalandhar on Saturday.These ex-servicemen include Colonel Jagdeep Singh – a wheelchair-bound battle casualty himself, Commander Gurcharan Singh – a 1971 war veteran, Honorary Captain Gurmail Singh and Havildar Simranjeet Singh. They all are working for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families besides the youth of the state in training them to join forces, conduct environmental awareness, girls’ education and anti-drug campaigns in Punjab.Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar along with his wife Sunita Dwivedi and other family members.
