Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that the government takes strict and prompt action against complaints of food adulteration. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Joshi said the government conducts inquiries as soon as it receives complaints of food adulteration and also carries out criminal proceedings if food items are not fit for human consumption. He said that for the testing of various food commodities, FSSAI has 242 laboratories, four referral laboratories across the country and also Mobile Food Testing Laboratories. He said that the Government uses social media extensively to make people aware of food adulteration. Replying to another question, Mr Joshi said that, National Consumer Helpline has become a big tool for consumer protection.
