At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will pay a visit to India from April 17 to April 24, 2022. PM Jugnauth will be accompanied by his wife Kobita Jugnauth and a high-level delegation.
According to the release by Ministry of External Affairs, “Apart from the official engagements in Gujarat and New Delhi, the PM Jugnauth will also pay a visit to Varanasi.”
During his visit to India, he will also participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar on 19 April along with PM Modi and WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus.. India had earlier signed an agreement with WHO to establish the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine. PM Modi stated that the WHO GCTM would become a centre of global wellness, bolstering evidence-based research, training, and awareness for Traditional Medicine.
Further on April 20, the Mauritian Prime Minister Jugnauth will also participate in the Global Ayush Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar on 20 April. The summit will be inaugurated by PM Modi at around 10:30 am. The three-day summit will witness 6 Plenary sessions, 8 roundtables, 6 workshops, and 2 symposiums, with the presence of around 90 eminent speakers and 100 exhibitors.
India and Mauritius enjoy uniquely close ties, bound by shared history, culture and heritage. Earlier in January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated and launched various India assisted development projects in Mauritius.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth thanked India for wide ranging assistance including financial assistance to Mauritius. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi the relations between India and Mauritius have attained newer heights.
