Several districts in Maharashtra announce strict lockdown measures to ensure no further surge in Corona cases

Even as new cases of COVID-19 seem to have plateaued in Maharashtra, some districts have announced strict lockdown measures to ensure that there is no further surge in cases.

With an active caseload of close to 40,000 cases and with an increase of about 3000 new cases daily, Nashik’s district administration has decided to impose a ten day lockdown from 12-22 May. Nashik’s Commissioner Kailash Jadhav has informed that all public and private establishments, except essential services will remain closed. People will be allowed to move out only for medical purposes. Grocery and vegetables stores will be allowed to remain open till 12 noon.

Having 5744 active cases, Buldana district has also announced strict lockdown from today evening till 20th May. Despite district authorities’ assurance that essential services will continue unhampered, many citizens could be seen crowding market places.

In Sindhudurg district too, lockdown came into force from Sunday midnight and will continue till 15th May. Police authorities are taking strict action against those not following rules, including carrying out spot antigen tests. The coastal district has little over four thousand active cases.

Meanwhile, strict restrictions continue across the state to break the chain of Coronavirus transmission. Maharashtra yesterday recorded 48,401 new cases, 60,226 recoveries and 572 fatalities. Active cases remain on the higher side at 6,15,783 in the state.
