100crore rupees under PRASAD scheme to give impetus to tourism in Leh

Leh of Ladakh, one of the famous tourist destinations of the country, has been selected for the National Pilgrimage Conservation and Spiritual Augmentation Campaign ie Prasad Yojana. Under this, tourism related infrastructure will be developed in Leh at a cost of about 100 crore rupees. A team of consultants from the Ministry of Tourism visited Leh yesterday.

Nearly 65 crores spent on tourist places and infrastructure

The city of Leh in Ladakh has been shortlisted under the National Mission for Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Promotion Campaign ‘Prasad Yojana’. Prasad aims at integrated development in a planned, prioritized and sustainable manner to provide a full religious tourism experience. Along with the rejuvenation scheme, it will also help in economic development, employment generation, world class tourist infrastructure and promotion of local arts, culture and handicrafts. Secretary of UT Tourism, Riggin Sampel said that under the Prasad Yojana, about 35 crore rupees will be spent on Chokanga Vihar of reputed Buddhism in the main market. Around 65 crores will be used on various tourist spots and basic facilities in the city.

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh CEC Tashi Gialtsen said the long pending demand for Leh development to meet tourism needs is now becoming tangible. Soon the UT administration, in consultation with Leh Pahadi Parishad, submitted a detailed project report for the implementation of the Prasad Yojana for better facilities and experience for tourists.

What is Prasad Yojana

Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Enhancement Drive (PRASAD) was started by the Ministry of Tourism in the year 2014-15. It is a national mission, the scheme is fully centrally funded. Under this scheme, the pilgrimage sites across the country are identified and developed to enrich the religious tourism experience. Its main objective is to provide complete religious tourism experience as well as integrated development of pilgrimage sites in a priority and sustainable manner.
