Protests against the military government in Myanmar continued today as people gathered in large numbers in many towns of the country. Myanmar police fired water cannons on the protestors in the capital Naypyidaw this morning, according to reports. People are protesting in many other places in the country on the fourth day after the military Coup on Feb 1. The Myanmar government has warned people of legal action for acts that are violating state stability, public safety and rule of law.
In his first nationwide address yesterday the Chief of Myanmar Army Tatmadaw Gen. Min Aung Hlaing has justified the military takeover of the government. Gen Hlaing said that imposition of emergency and military takeover was necessitated because of the ‘voting fraud’ which was not addressed by the Union Election Commission (UEC) and the government.
