Top Maoist leader Ganapathy with Rs 1 cr bounty on head offers to surrender before Telangana Police

Top leader and former secretary of CPI (Maoist) party, Ganapathy aka Mappalla Laxman Rao, is reportedly planning to surrender to the Telangana Police.

After resigning from his party positions two years ago due to ill health, the 74-year-old leader and five other leaders are in touch with the K Chandrasekhar Rao government.

There are media reports that the offer to surrender was made to few Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders close to KCR.

Wants to surrender owing to ill-health

The Maoist ideologue wants to surrender due to his health as he is suffering from asthma, diabetes and knee pain.

While the Maoist leader is part of the central committee of the CPI (Maoist), he is not been very active in the movement and is believed to be hiding Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Born in Karimnagar district, the Maoist leader is a science graduate, holds a B.Ed. degree and carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head.

He joined the movement after coming in contact with Maoist leaders Nalla Adi Reddy and Kondapalli Seetharamaiah.

Carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head

Ganapathy played a significant role in the formation of CPI (Maoist) – which wants to overthrow the Indian government through people’s war – after the merger of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) People’s War (People’s War Group) and the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) in 2004.

According to a report by TOI, the Maoist leader has been underground from the past 41 years.

Last year, Sathwaji Sudhakar, a key member from the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) along with his wife Vydugula Aruna.

Sudhakar and his wife made startling revelations to the media after their surrender saying that the money meant for expanding and carrying out party activities were being diverted for personal use by the top leadership.
