Kochi: Three more persons have been arrested by the Customs in connection with the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case at Thiruvananthapuram airport. The three arrested have close links to Malappuram native Rameez, who was arrested in the case earlier.
It is been revealed that one among the arrested is Muvattupuzha native Jaleel. According to reports, the three are accused in many gold smuggling cases. Customs took the three in custody on Monday night.
The Customs and the NIA are probing into the international links in the smuggling case. Rameez is considered a crucial link that controls the gold smuggling activities in Kerala and India.
Meanwhile, there are many cases registered against Jaleel in connection with gold smuggling at Thiruvananthapuram, Delhi and Bengaluru airports. However, Customs or DRI had failed to nab him until Monday.
Customs found that the gold worth Rs 40 crore smuggled by Sarith, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair were transacted by Jaleel and team.
