DMK President, MK Stalin is deeply troubled to see Omar Abdullah’s picture wearing a woollen cap with long white beard. But, Stalin is absolutely at peace, when eight unidentified men attempted to hurl the Petrol bombs at Swaminathan Gurumurthy’s Mylapore house, at around 3am on 26 January. However, the attempt was foiled by alert security guard. Stalin did not even find it necessary to condemn such cowardly attempt to blast Gurumurthy’s house.
Why was a conspiracy hatched to blast a renowned journalist and Chartered Accountant’s house? Did Thuglaq’s editor provoke anyone? No, he hurt none. It is job of police to ascertain the motive behind the attack. However, Swaminathan Gurumurthy has celebrated Thuglak magazine’s 50th anniversary event in Chennai on January 14, in which guests had exercised their freedom of expression.
One of the guests, mega star Rajnikant, revealed: in 1971, Periyar had held an “anti-superstition rally” in which naked pictures of God Ram and Sita were paraded in public and garlanded with slippers.” Swaminathan Gurumurthy has also told that the publication was considering republishing parts relevant to the Salem rally in 1971. Also, Gurumurthy dared to be politically incorrect when he hadn’t mince his words to say, “DNA of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was against India.
Thereafter followers of “Periyar,” Father of the Dravidian Movement, started intimidating Rajnikanth to apologise for his comments. Even a complain against Rajnikanth was registered with the Coimbatore police for defaming Periyar. Now, Gurumurthy’s house was targeted to be blasted, was not less than act of terror to muzzle the voice who disagree with them. Supporters of Periyar vow that Periyar was social reformist who fought for equality in society. Irony is that Periyar’s followers don’t believe in ‘Free Speech.’ Periyars supporters are ready to punish those who dare to disagree with them.
When you exercise your freedom of expression to disagree with Periyarists and leftists, you risk your life and your home to be blasted. And democracy would continue to be intact. But if a terrorist sympathiser, Omar Abdullah’s picture wearing a woollen cap with long white beard surface on social media, democracy comes under danger zone. Isn’t Islamophobia fake and Hindu hatred is reality in India?
