The Bangladeshi commandos killed the hijacker afyer an attempt was made to hijack a Biman Bangladesh plane which was on the way to Dubai and was forced to make an emergency landing at Chattogram’s (Old name : Chittagong) Shah Amanat International Airport.
This took place when the purported hijacker, who was said to be mentally imbalanced tried to forcibly enter the cockpit of the plane which was identified as Flight BG 147, which travels the route from Dhaka to Dubai with a stop-over at Chattogram. The pilot made the emergency landing.
All the passengers and most of the staff were safely disembarked from the flight and one crew member was kept hostage. The hijacker was said to have a gun and explosives around his body. It was not verified what type of explosives he had.
The flight landed in Chattogram airport and the commandos surrounded the plane. As the hijacker refused to surrender or handover the gun, he was shot at and was killed.
The hijacker who was not identified, seemed to have domestic issues with his wife and had demanded to speak to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
” We had tried to arrest the hijacker or to get himm surrender, but ehen he refused, we had to shoot him dead “, said Major General S M Motiur Rahman of the Bangladesh Army.
A three member committee headed by a senior official of the Aviation Ministry has been formed to probe the incident, the officials said.
