Chennai : In light of the recent terror attack at J&K, the maritime surveillance was heightened to foil any anti national elements gaining access into our coastal
areas and engaging in activities detrimental to our national interests.
As a result of strict vigil and extensive patrol along International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), Indian Coast Guard Ship Shaurya apprehended 05 Sri Lankan fishing boats along with 25 crew who were fishing illegally in the Indian Waters about 90 kilometers off Nagapattinam. The apprehended fishing boats had a total of 4,200 Kgs of Tuna fish illegally caught from the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone. All the apprehended boats were brought to Karaikal harbour for joint investigation by relevant security agencies.
The Coast Guard is maintaining constant vigil on the Eastern Seaboard with the deployment of ships and aircraft regularly to monitor suspicious activities at Sea. Besides providing security to our Indian Fishing boats by intensive surveillance, assistance to fishermen in distress at sea is also provided by Indian Coast Guard.
