There are many people who have put up their social media profiles just to spread rumours and play up on the sentiments. And adding to that Twitter too isn’t acting on them. While giving the Blue tick to the handles, Twitter India has been very liberal to the left liberals, while very selective for the right wing and when it comes to taking action, suspending it’s the other way round, that is, not acting even when these left liberals spread rumours from their blue tick handles, whereas restrict or suspend the handles of right wing immediately on mass reporting even when there is not much credence to such reporting.
As soon as the Pulwama IED blast occurred by a Suicide Bomber, rather than show respect and pay tributes to CRPF men, there were even attempts to suggest that this bomb blast was a set up and stage managed. This apart, there have been attempts to create sympathy for Kashmiris through lame excuses and kind. Many of the Blue tick handles have been circulating rumours that the Kashmiri students are being harassed.
#SOSKashmir 15-20 Kashmiri girls trapped in a hostel in Dehradun for hours now, as an angry mob outside demands that they be expelled from the hostels. This is in Dolphin institute. Police is present but unable to disperse the mob.@INCUttarakhand @uttarakhandcops @ukcopsonline

Mr. @tsrawatbjp female Kashmiri students have been locked up for hours inside their rooms because mobs outside are baying for their blood. This is happening in your state. Are you proud of this situation? Please intervene NOW!@uttarakhandcops #SOSKashmir https://t.co/mZEeq2l36l

We are alive. But very, very scared. #SOSKashmir

While Shehla Rashid put out these rumours on Twitter, The Uttarakhand Cops were quick to put out the facts through their investigation and posted a tweet to dispel these false claims by the blue tick liberals.
There are rumours that few Kashmiri girls trapped in a hostel in Dehradun for hours due to an angry mob.
This is not true Police sorted out d issue There r no crowds Initially there was some confusion regarding slogans by kashmiri girls in favour of pakistan which was resolved.
— Uttarakhand Police (@uttarakhandcops) February 16, 2019
Rather than apologizing for posting a false tweet, she was found putting up an arrogant tweet to the Police asking…” to set their house in order, rather than trying to discredit the victims.”
Rather than gaslighting the victims, @uttarakhandcops should try explaining why repeated news of attacks on Kashmiris are coming in from Dehradun. Try setting your house in order, rather than trying to discredit the victims.
— Shehla Rashid (@Shehla_Rashid) February 16, 2019
There is responsibility upon us to be helpful to the society rather than be of nuisance value.
If some intended to stir up trouble, there were some who took it up as their duty to put up messages in the interest of general public not to believe the rumours.
Kudos and thanks to .@uttarakhandcops for prompt and quick communication. Don't believe in rumours. Don't spread rumours. https://t.co/R7YCnZaMFK

The Blue tick handles continued with these rumour filled tweets and even a congress EX MP Priya Dutt too posted this without confirming :
News of kashmiri students being attacked by mobs in Dehradun is saddened me , Kashmir is our state and the Kashmiri people our brethren, this is not the time to be divided and fight our own, that is what they want, we must stand as one and protect eachother. India is ONE
— Priya Dutt (@PriyaDutt_INC) February 16, 2019
And here was a tweet of the one from NDTV Nidhi Razdan :
The biggest anti nationals today are those attacking Kashmiri students, which is exactly the kind of divide the ISI wants to push.
— Nidhi Razdan (@Nidhi) February 17, 2019
A Kashmiri student from Dolphin college in #Punjab just called and said they have been thrown out of hostel and are now taking a bus, trying to reach Chandigarh to be safe. “7 of us left, but there are others still,” he said, with panic. @jandkgovernor
— Fahad Shah (@pzfahad) February 15, 2019
Many tried to point out the facts too… like Navdeep Singh…which made Fahad Shah to correct the location of the incident from Punjab to Dehradun (We don’t even know whether it really happened in Dehradun or not) A blue tick verified handle casually tweets about a place and changes the location when pointed out.
Dehradun, that was an error, corrected. Still Chandigarh police has asked to call if anyone feels unsafe.
— Fahad Shah (@pzfahad) February 15, 2019
And one person from Hyderabad (absolutely safe city with law and order ) posted this :
I live in #Hyderabad, some of the #Kashmiris I know trade in #Shilparaman area. Spoke to a few of them, most are hell scared. I announce this openly: My home is open to any #Kashmiri who isn’t feeling safe in the city. You can dm me in case you or anyone you know need any help.
— Samavritti (@samavritti) February 16, 2019
Finally, the Official Twitter handle of CRPF posted this to put stop on the rumours being spread about the Kashmiri Students :
ADVISORY: Fake news about harassment of students from #Kashmir is being propagated by various miscreants on social media.
CRPF helpline has enquired about complaints about harassment and found them incorrect.
These are attempts to invoke hatred
Please DO NOT circulate such posts— ??CRPF?? (@crpfindia) February 17, 2019
There should be serious measures taken to prevent such rumour mongering freely without feeling any responsibility rather posting such rumours with pre planned motives. This is setting dangerous precedents and unless contained, will become a norm. Wake Up, Authorities, those responsible for making laws which can be implemented and approach should be pro active than reactive.
