14 People arrested for attempting to set up terror group in Tamil Nadu

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 14 people from Tamil Nadu for their suspected involvement in setting up a terror group.

They all hail from different parts of the state and are said to have been deported from Saudi Arabia for mobilizing money in support of the terror group Ansarullah.

They were brought in a special aircraft and produced before NIA Special Judge Senthur Pandian in Poonamallee near Chennai on Monday. The court remanded all of them to NIA custody till the July 25.

On Saturday, two people from Nagapattinam were arrested following searches there and in Chennai, for establishing the radical group Ansarullah that aims at creating an Islamic order through terrorist attacks.

The fourteen people arrested in the latest case are said to have collected money in the Gulf in support of the group, mainly from the Indians working there, to strengthen the radical ISIS-inspired module.

Further probe are expected to give more leads in the case.
