Zuzana Caputova sworn in as president of Slovakia

In Slovakia, anti-corruption campaigner Zuzana Caputova was sworn in as country’s first female president today.

In her inauguration speech, she pledged to make the justice system work for everyone. Caputova said, she did not come to rule but to serve the nation.

She said state officials that had proven incapable of stamping out corruption should lose their jobs and vowed to make the justice system work fairly for everyone.

Caputova scored a convincing victory against Smer-SD candidate Maros Sefcovic in March. Her allies from the Progressive Slovakia/Together party hope to use the momentum to unseat the ruling party in a 2020 general election.
