Youth at core of India’s rise as global sporting powerhouse: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that with the youth at the core, the expansion of India’s sports infrastructure is propelling the country towards becoming a global sporting powerhouse. Sharing an article by Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Prime Minister highlighted the unprecedented growth of the country’s sports infrastructure in the last 11 years.

In the article, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said that the last 11 years have witnessed a remarkable transformation in India’s sporting infrastructure, driven by a substantial increase in investment. He highlighted that the budget of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has more than tripled over the past decade.

Mr. Mandaviya said that as India progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, sports are emerging as a powerful force shaping the nation’s growth story. He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian sports is scaling new heights on the global stage.

He added that the country’s recent sporting achievements are the result of a performance-driven ecosystem built over the last 11 years. He mentioned that the Prime Minister’s focused vision has ensured that every athlete-regardless of background-receives access to world-class training, infrastructure, financial assistance, athlete-centric governance, and a transparent support system.

Looking ahead, the Minister said India is preparing for a possible bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympic Games. To support this vision, the minister stated that new verticals under the Khelo India initiative-such as the School Games, Tribal Games, Northeast Games, Water Games, Martial Arts Games, and Swadeshi Games-are being introduced. He also added that the upcoming Khelo India School Games will play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing young talent.

Mr. Mandaviya said Prime Minister Modi envisions India among the top 10 sporting nations when the country hosts the Olympics in 2036, and among the top five by the time it celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047.

Describing India’s sporting journey as a story of vision, determination, and inclusive development, the Minister said that with the youth at the core of this transformation and under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is rising as a global sporting powerhouse. He added that the change is visible from medals to mindsets-and that the spirit of sport is driving the journey to a developed India.
