The world’s largest Shivling situated in the Madheshwar mountain of Jashpur, Chattisgarh, has been vandalised. This region is the stronghold of the missionaries and has witnessed the most conversions. Had holy site of any other faith been broken, there would have been chaos.
It is also to be noted that Chhattisgarh currently has Congress Govt and cases similar to this are on a rise. Also that the current Chief Minister’s father is a pro missionary and has previously given away Shri Ram Lakshman Mandir land for missionaries. Clearly hindus are under threat in the current state’s position.
The case pertains to the Shiva temple located in Madheshwar mountain in Mayali, in the Kunkuri police station area.
It is about 85 feet high and 105 feet circular. The village has the world’s biggest natural Shivling, called Bhuteshwar Mahadev Bhakurra. The place is known as ‘Bhuteshwarnath Dham’. What is miraculous about the Shivling is that its length increases by six to eight inches every year.

There is a popular belief about this Shivling. Hundreds of years ago, during the Zamindari system, Shobhasinh Zamindar, a resident of Paragaon, used to go to his farm in the evening, when he heard the sound of a bull and the lion roaring from a special figure near the field. After searching with the villagers, there was no lion or bull. Due to this, people’s reverence for this mound increased. It is said that in this Shivling, nature-provided Jalalhari is also seen, which is slowly coming up on the ground.
There are also legends that they have been worshiped by the ancestors of Chhara Naresh Bindranavagarh. It is said that there is a slight crack on the Shivling, due to which people also consider it as Ardhanarishwar.
“This condemnable incident took place during the auspicious month of Shravan dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. It indicates a conspiracy. The Congress government in the state has failed to protect Hindu places of worship,” said state BJP spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastav said.
Hitting back, state Congress media wing chief Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said, “It is strange BJP has blamed the ruling party over an act committed by anti-socials. BJP is trying to incite communal tension and disturb social harmony.”
