Mumbai: Western Railway has made UTS on mobile app available for non suburban as well as suburban stations. A robust growth of more than 250 per cent has been recorded in 2019-20 (till May) as compared to the previous corresponding period. The average passengers per day has massively increased from 55,000 in the year 2018-19 to approx.. 2 lakh passengers in 2019-20. Notably, over 3.64 crore passengers have used the UTS mobile app all over WR since November 2018, of which approx. 3.48 crore passengers have booked tickets through the mobile app. However on entire WR in May 2019, more than 9.62 lakh tickets were bought through the UTS app which marked the highest record earnings till date of Rs. 6.02 crores.
Ravinder Bhakar, Chief Public Relations Officer, WR said the main objective of introducing UTS app is to encourage digital ticketing mode, to promote self ticketing and to ensure that passengers can buy tickets without facing the ordeal of queues. With combined efforts of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Mumbai Division of WR is also promoting Rupay, BHIM/UPI for purchasing Reserved and Unreserved tickets. To promote easy ticketing options for passengers over Mumbai Suburban, the Mumbai Division of WR has also developed Automatic Ticketing Zones at Andheri and Borivali stations. These special zones are well equipped with ATVMs for printing tickets and QR codes for paperless ticketing.
