Djokovic defeated German fourth seed and Tokyo Olympic Champion Alexander Zverev in a tense and nail-biting semi-final clash 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 yesterday, reaching the brink of completing the first Men’s Singles calendar-year Grand Slam since 1969. One more victory will give the 34-year-old Serbian star the first calendar-year Slam since Rod Laver did it 52 years ago. Djokovic also equaled Roger Federer’s record with his 31st Grand Slam final.
Medvedev cruised into the finals after producing a dominant performance to overcome 12th seed Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in the last four at New York.
