In the United States, Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has accepted the advisory panel’s recommendation for use of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The move will facilitate a massive vaccination campaign in the US beginning today. Coronavirus has killed nearly 3 lakh Americans since its outbreak. Truckloads Pfizer’s vaccine are being delivered to nearly 150 distribution centres across the country. Healthcare workers and nursing home residents are likely to be first ones to get the shots. A US official said, it will take months of work and diligence, courage and strength to eventually achieve the nationwide vaccination.
The announcement kicked off a massive logistical operation involving the federal and state governments, private companies and healthcare workers to quickly distribute limited vaccine supplies throughout the US. It offers hope in a country grappling with surging COVID-19 infections and deaths.
