Union Cabinet Approves ₹63,246 Crore Chennai Metro Phase-II Project, Expanding City Network By 119 Km

Union Cabinet has approved the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase-II, comprising three corridors. The total length of the approved lines will be around 119 kilometres with 128 stations. The project completion cost is 63 thousand 246 crore rupees and is planned to be completed by 2027. Once Phase-II is fully operational, Chennai will have a total metro rail network of 173 km.

The three corridors are from Madhavaram to SIPCOT, from Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass, and from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. Briefing media in New Delhi, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project represents a significant advancement in the city’s infrastructure development. He said that the approved corridors will connect North to South and East to the West of Chennai.
