Today is the deadline for beleaguered Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey to appear before the Indian Parliamentary Committee.
The top decision-making executives of Twitter have been constantly refusing to appear before the committee for a hearing. The committee had also called people from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to attend this meeting.
Since it is clear that Jack Dorsey has refused to attend the hearing, the parliamentary committee is sure to take tough action against the Twitter head.
It may be recalled that the committee had taken cognisance of protests by right-wing activists that Twitter and other social media platforms were biased against them. Thus the committee had sent a letter to Twitter asking their top decision-making executives travel to India and appear before it. The letter was sent on 1 February 2019 and the hearing was scheduled for 11 February.
The terse reason that Twitter provided for not appearing was “short notice”
