Trump surveys Florida, Georgia in aftermath of Hurricane Michael

Okaloosa County (Florida) [India], Oct 16 : United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived in Okaloosa County on Monday (local time) to take stock of the damage left behind in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. The US President and the First Lady were received by Florida’s Governor Rick Scott and Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Brock Long amongst other officials at the Eglin Air Force Base.

Trump and Melania started their visit by taking an aerial survey of the areas that have been ravaged by Hurricane Michael, which made landfall in the northwestern parts of Florida on October 10.

He thanked the law enforcement, first responders, state, local and Federal officials who are helping in recovery efforts post-Hurricane Michael that has been hailed as the worst of its kind in 50 years. “First responders, @fema, the job they’ve done is incredible,” the US President stated while taking a tour through affected neighbourhoods in Florida, tweeted The White House. Both Trump and Melania met citizens who have been affected by the hurricane and handed out relief material.

The CNN reported that the US President and his wife headed to a Red Cross centre in Georgia where they spoke with state and local officials, and local farmers to discuss the impact of the hurricane.

He repeatedly assured all affected citizens about his government’s efforts towards providing support and relief while he stressed on the magnitude of damage left behind in the wake of the hurricane.
