Poochakkal (Alappuzha): The beautiful sculptures of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, which was unveiled in the museum of Tamil Nadu government, were made by an artist in Kerala. Alappuzha Poochakkal native Sajayan Madhavan is the sculptor who carved the life-like mannequin of Jayalalithaa.
The statues are set up at Amma Memorial Museum situated at Kamaraj Salai in Chennai. Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami inaugurated the museum on Wednesday. There are two sculptures of Jayalalithaa; a single full-size sculpture and another with a school student. The figures have a height of 167 centimetres.
The sculptures were made using hyper realistic silicon technology which is applied in Hollywood movies. The mannequin has the same colour as human skin. Even the texture is similar to real skin when touched. The body was made using silicon rubber and resin. Real human hair is given to the sculptures. The mount is made of granite.
Sajayan said that he has been busy making the sculptures for five months. According to the condition in the contract, he cannot reveal the remuneration received for making the mannequins. It was Sajayan who made the huge birds in the movie Yanthiran 2.0 starring Rajinikanth. He also worked for art direction in the Vijay starrer ‘Mersal’.
Sajayan is animatronics expert in movie industry. This is a method of making mechanical puppets of animals and birds and shooting their movements. He made the statue of Udham Singh for the war museum in Punjab. He has completed Diploma in Clay Modelling from Canara Bank Institute of Artisans in Bengaluru.
