Kochi: Gold Smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh has complained of receiving threats from visitors in jail during judicial custody. She informed the court that some people who introduced themselves as cops and jail officials blackmailed her while she was housed at Attakulangara women’s jail.
“The visitors who introduced themselves as cops and jail staff warned me that if I cooperate with the probe and reveal the names of VIPs in the case, myself and my family will be in danger. I continue to receive threats for many days before November 25. For the last time, they blackmailed me on November 25,” Swapna informed the court.
Now, my confidential statement has come out through media. As I’m housed in Attakulangara jail again, my life is in danger there. There are chances to torture me mentally and physically in the jail. So, I request the court to direct the jail DGP to give protection in the jail,” said Swapna.
Based on Swapna’s request, the court directed the jail DGP to take immediate action for her protection inside the jail.
Meanwhile, Swapna forgot to request for protection to her family. In the petition to the court, she pointed out the threat to her family as well. As she did not request, the court also neglected the need to give protection to her family.
