Sunita Williams expresses eagerness to contribute to India’s space program

Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has expressed her eagerness to contribute to India’s space program, hoping to share her experiences and support the country’s growing space ambitions. She made these remarks during a press conference yesterday, just days after returning to Earth from an extended mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Recalling her awe-inspiring experience of viewing India from space, Williams described it in simple yet profound words: “Amazing, just amazing.” Known for embracing her Indian heritage, she was particularly captivated by the breathtaking sight of the Himalayas.

For Williams, seeing India from space felt deeply personal,a connection to her roots. She fondly described spotting Gujarat and Mumbai from above, with the fishing fleets off the coast serving as a familiar landmark, evoking a sense of homecoming.

The 59-year-old astronaut, whose parents were born in India, also expressed a strong desire to visit her father’s homeland soon.
