Malappuram: Students of Kurikkalambadu village in Urngattiri grama panchayat here have been struggling to continue their studies as the classes turned virtual amid the COVID-19 outbreak. A large number of students in schools and colleges are unable to access the internet. Hence, they are forced to climb a hill searching for the network.
Kurikkalmbadu region is the centre of Vezhakkode, Thencheeri and Pavanna wards. It is reported that network coverage of most of the mobile companies are not available in this region.
As the online classes are continuing, over hundreds of students and their parents are worried about internet access. The students are seen climbing the hills and wandering in rubber plantations with mobile phones and textbooks in search of network coverage.
The parents complained that the children are having too much mental pressure as their classes are interrupted due to network issues.
Apart from online studies, services of the government available online are not accessible to the residents of this village.
A total of 250 people in 60 houses are residing in two SC colonies in this village. Over 100 people, including plantation workers, farmers and daily wage workers are struggling without a mobile phone network.
The residents informed that they are ready to give land for mobile phone companies to install mobile tower. They hope that a mobile phone service provider will come forward to help them.
