State seeks clarity on postgraduation medical admissions

Mumbai: Soon after the bench led by Justice Ranjit More pronounced its judgment upholding the reservation to Marathas, the Maharashtra government urged the judges to give clarity on the applicability of the quota on admissions to postgraduation in medical courses. Special counsel V A Thorat said, “We have already granted admissions to students of PG in medical courses as per the 16 per cent quota.

But now, as this court has ordered to reduce the percentage to 13 per cent in education, we seek clarity on this situation.” “Let the admissions for this year be given as per the 16 per cent quota. We will change the same for the next academic year,” Thorat submitted. At this, Justice Bharati Dangre said, “No. This was not the issue before us. If you seek such a relief, file a separate application and we will hear it and pass orders.”
