We all have felt exhausted at work and wanted to take a quick power nap. And if there’s an air conditioner, you just can’t resist the urge to sleep. This is exactly what happened with a burglar who was caught sleeping at work.

A 22-year-old man who attempted to rob a house in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh was tempted to sleep in a room with AC. The man, identified as Babu, tried to burgle the house of a petrol bunk owner. He had done a recce of the house before breaking into the house to rob.

Babu had planned to commit the robbery on September 12. He broke into the house around 4 am and entered the room of the homeowner Satti Venkat Reddy.

Everything was going as per the plan until the air conditioner invited him to take a nap. “He told us that he was tired and since the air conditioner was also on, he could not resist the sleep,” constable Arjun of Gokavaram police station said.

Babu thought that he would leave the house with the loot after taking a power nap under the homeowner’s bed. However, he ended up falling in deep sleep in the comfort of the air conditioner.

Stunned by the snores of the trespasser, Reddy locked him in the room and alerted the police. The police reached Reddy’s house around 7.30 am.

“When our colleagues went there, he locked himself up in the room. After persuading him for a few minutes, he was detained,” the constable said.

Babu had debts that he couldn’t clear just by working at a sweet stall. He thought of committing a robbery to get out of his financial crisis.

During the investigation, the police found that Babu was not a professional thief. He was arrested under Section 380/ 511 (attempt to commit theft). “Though he did not commit the offence, he still attempted to, so we had to arrest him,” sub-inspector Channa Rao said.
