A disabled farmer from Kaifeng in Henan province revealed how he became a celebrity by live-streaming rural life on a visit to his farm on Thursday.
Brother Tong, whose real name is Hongtong Zheng, livestreams video of life on the farm to over 400,000 subscribers from all over China. It has proved lucrative, with the disabled man earning around $1,300 (€1,116) in virtual gifts per month, a far greater sum than any other farmer in the village earns.
Before that, he had been a troubadour, playing music on the road for several years, eventually finding fame and fortune in the simple pleasures of country life.
