Russia has detained an Islamic State (IS) suicide bomber who was given the task to kill suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said, Azamov was recruited by the IS as a suicide bomber sometime between April and June this year in Turkey, where he underwent training. As part of the plan, he was sent to Russia to get Indian visa. The funds for the attack had also reached IS Kashmir.
The FSB said, the terrorist’s ideological indoctrination was conducted remotely through Telegram messenger accounts and during personal meetings in Istanbul with an IS representative. The FSB noted that the terrorist had sworn allegiance to the IS chief before being given the task of leaving for Russia, completing the necessary documents and flying to India. The Home Ministry is presently tracking the situation and cyberspace is being closely watched by the relevant agencies.
