Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the pathway to regional peace lies in understanding each other’s sensitivities, following principles of non-interference. Addressing 12th South Asia Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said, with exception of one country Pakistan, the region has adhered to non-interference policy.
He said, India is engaged in conversations with its neighbours except one country in order to develop a joint approach for regional peace and security. The Minister said, full potentials of SAARC could not be utilized because of behaviour of a single country. The Minister said, India is playing a lead role on connectivity in the South Asian region and in the development spheres it is providing credit line to its neighbours.
Talking on terror, Mr Singh said, terror attacks in the country reminds about the state sponsored terrorism. He said, it is essential that terrorists and their ideological and financial network are cut off and they do not receive state support. The Minister said, India fully capable of giving a firm response to the cross border terrorism. He said, talks and terror can not go together and Pakistan should take steps against terror groups. He said, it is important that everyone is united in the efforts to defeat terrorism.
The theme of the conference is ‘India’s Neighbourhood First Policy: Regional Perceptions’.
