Puducherry: 3 fishermen stabbed after 2 groups clash over use of banned net

At least three fishermen were stabbed after a dispute over the use of banned fishing nets turned violent in Puducherry. Local fishermen from Nallavaadu and Veerampattinam villages had been at loggerheads over the banned nets for a while now. But the debate turned into a major clash on Monday as the fishermen started attacking each other with sharp weapons.

Three fishermen were stabbed in the incident and were badly wounded. The police opened fire to manage the situation. Police firing injured another fisherman.

A large police force has been deployed at Veerampattinam and Nallavaadu as the situation remains volatile.
