The protests continued in Myanmar on Tuesday even as the death toll crossed 510 following violent suppression by the military government of the country.
Security forces shot and killed one man in the southernmost town of Kawthaung as they cleared the streets, Reuters quoted the Mizzima news portal. One person was killed in the northern town of Myitkyina. Another person was reportedly shot dead by the police when it fired upon protestors in the Muse township of the Northern Shan State.
Protests continued on Tuesday with reports coming in from Hsipaw in Northern Shan State, Myitkyina and Monywa township of Sagaing region among other regions and townships. Students of Dawei university also carried out a protest against the military government on Tuesday.
As part of the civil disobedience movement against the military government , the activists asked residents to throw garbage onto streets on key road intersections, says Reuters.
According to the Human Rights group Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) of Myanmar, 510 people have been killed till Monday. AAPP reports that 2574 people have been detained since the military ousted the civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
On Monday, 14 civilians were killed, including at least eight in Yangon’s South Dagon neighbourhood, the AAPP said.
